Founding Objective

The firm was founded on the belief that Indian defense services, law enforcement, legal and finance professionals are better positioned to appreciate the complexity of operational risks encountered by multinationals and also to deliver a multi perspective risk mitigation solution.

Underlying this belief (in the Indian context) are some compelling factors –

• The Indian armed forces remain the most professionally managed government apparatus in the country with minimum interference from the political system.
• Officers and men of the armed forces are perceived to be the least susceptible in terms of negotiating their integrity.
• The deployment strategy of the armed forces exposes its personnel to virtually every part of India and at the same time, exposes its officers and ranks to the social, cultural and religious discontinuities of the country.
• Strategic nuances are better grasped by armed forces and law enforcement personnel as a result of their holistic training.
• Legal professionals are ideally positioned to unravel the complex Indian legal mechanism for MNCs.
• Finance professionals bring significant value in terms of fleshing out corporate irregularities.

The TACT team is a structured mix of retired armed forces and law enforcement personnel, most of whom have had a distinguished record in counter-insurgency and anti-terrorism operations. Partnering them are legal and finance professionals who are well versed in Indian corporate laws and global accounting standards. This is an optimal combination and is hard to beat as most clients have experienced.

TACT’s solutions, therefore, are not only strategically and operationally astute but also well within the Indian legal framework. The firm only provides legally sound solutions. Mr. Anil Chowdhry, IPS (Retd.)

Chief Advisor: Planning & Strategy

Mr. Anil Chowdhry is one of the senior most Police Officers of India with 38 years of outstanding record in the Indian Police Service. During his service Mr. Chowdhry had the experience of managing and advising on Security and Intelligence aspects spread across the globe.

Mr. Chowdhry is one of the foremost experts in the Intelligence and Security matters in the country and has held the coveted appointment of Secretary (Internal Security), Ministry of Home Affairs, wherein he was responsible for advising the Government and formulating policies concerning wide ranging issues affecting the National Security, Terrorism, Naxalism and management of disturbed territories within the Union of India including J&K and North East. He was also responsible for the management of the IPS and CPMF cadres, nationally. He advised not only on Security related issues but also on development of the area to wipe out insurgency through Political processes.

Mr. Chowdhry has had a long tenure of 22 years with the Intelligence Bureau wherein he held appointments from the level of an SP to Director General of Police. As Special Director, Intelligence Bureau (MHA), New Delhi, he oversaw IB's counter terrorism efforts in J&K, Counter Intelligence, VIP Security and Industrial Security. He also formulated the strategy to counter threats to vital installations and VIPs nationally. He also headed IB's VIP security wing for almost 7 years and served in the front line of terrorism and insurgency affected areas like J& K and the North East for almost 10 years.

He was also selected for the most coveted posting by an IPS officer in the Embassy of India, Washington D.C at the high level of a Minister, usually the preserve of the Indian Foreign Service wherein his duties included keeping the vast and influential Indian American community focuses on strengthening of India US relations and interaction with the highest levels of US government including the Congress, the Senate, State Dept and the White House. He was also responsible for maintaining active liaison at the highest levels with US law enforcement agencies including the FBI, US Secret Service, state police forces including the NYPD.

He is a recipient of the President's Police Medal for distinguished service and Indian Police Medal for Meritorious service for his outstanding contribution and dedication to the Service of the Nation.

TACT India benefits immensely from the Firm's association with Mr. Chowdhry as Chief Adviser on Strategy & Planning. He continuously engages in advising TACT and key clients in steering "Strategy Formulation", "Direction" and "Implementation" by virtue of his experience at the highest levels in the Government.

Air Commodore (Retired) S Murugan

Senior Corporate Advisor

A War Veteran, Air Commodore Murugan has 31 years of meritorious service with the Indian Air Force behind him. In command, he was assigned the biggest bases; in staff he was responsible for Maintenance, Planning and Policy formulation, Quality Control and Inspection and also directing Maintenance Information Systems. Extensively experienced in all theatres, he was awarded a Vishist Seva Medal (Third highest award in its category) by the President of India in 1968 for outstanding dedication and meritorious Service.

A qualified Telecommunication Engineer with a degree from the Engineering College at Guindy, Air Commodore Murugan has also been trained extensively at international institutes like Selenia Inc, Rome, Italy, Masters in Operations Research from the Institute of Technology, Cranfield, U.K and Defence Management with special emphasis on Strategic Planning and Policy Making in Naval Postgraduate School, Monterey, California, USA. He was also a member of the high-powered La Fontaine Committee to study Aircraft accidents and make recommendations.

He taught Quantitative Management Subjects like Operations Research, Statistical Analysis,   System Analysis etc at the Institute of Defence Management, Secunderabad for 5 years.

Post retirement he joined Tata Electronics as its General Manager and Chief Executive and turned around the loss making company into a profitable high-tech   production organization within a year. He held this position for seven years. He was responsible for design and Production of High-Technology Systems like Simulators, Ruggedised Computers and Missile Systems to three Services, Indian Railways, DRDO and ISRO.

He is presently with TACT India where the firm benefits from his very diverse yet involved experience of both, the uniformed service and the hard core corporate world wherein he had substantial tenures in both. This blend gives him a unique and authoritative position in understanding the risk environment in the country in specific relation to Corporate vulnerabilities. He understands the corporate needs and advises TACT India on critical issues. He is also the centre of excellence with respect to aviation related risk projects. 

Shailesh K Kapoor

Chief Legal Counsel

Shailesh a law graduates from Delhi University, is an accomplished corporate lawyer of Delhi with more than two decades of legal expertise and a robust portfolio of corporate clients who have been represented by him in business critical litigations. His litigation practice extends to all major courts of India.

His areas of focus include litigation support of both civil and criminal cases, advising on IPR issues, arbitration, telecom regulatory and labor issues.

Shailesh provides legal assistance to all clients of TACT not only in his individual capacity but also through his battery of experienced and qualified law graduate team members across India. His grasp of IPR, compliance and new business entry into India has been a significant knowledge base for all brand owning clients of TACT India who have also benefited from his post enforcement prosecution prowess. Shailesh has handled numerous high profile corporate litigation cases including the cases relating to some of the ‘Fortune 100’ corporations operating in India.

Mr P N Thanawala

Corporate Advisor

 

A Veteran of the Indian industries, Mr Thanawala is a post-graduate in law and has more than 20 years exclusive experience in Brand Protection Operations, Personnel Management and Industrial Relations.  He has held the prestigious post of Group Manager - India for a reputed company in the Synthetic Fiber Industry looking after labour, personnel and statutory compliances.

He has also been a consultant to a premier organization in the Stationery Industry; auditing their compliances, advising them on trademarks, copy right, patent and registrations.

He spearheaded the firm’s IPR protection initiatives, where in he utilized all the avenues of the government enforcement machinery, which has over the years networked him well with the enforcement and Senior Police Personnel across the country. Thanawala’s experience of enforcement actions is not limited to India alone but extends to the Indian Sub-continent and China. This strength is leveraged extensively at TACT India.

He has been instrumental in doing registrations of trademarks across 70 countries worldwide. With him Mr Thanawala brings an insight into the IPR protection arena, statutory compliance, registration issues and protection available in the various countries that he has experience of thus bringing the international perspective and knowledge to TACT India.  

Akhilesh Kapoor

CEO & Managing Director

Brand protection consultants in India and the surrounding region on the back of his sustained success in producing both preventive and post incident solutions in this area to his largely MNC clients.

An alumnus of the joint services National Defense Academy and the army centric Indian Military Academy, Akhilesh was commissioned into the elite Brigade of the Guards in Jan 1988. He is a trained para trooper and gained extensive experience of high conflict situations ranging from conventional warfare, counter terrorism and anti-insurgency initiatives along with sensitive internal security deployments.

On his premature release from the Indian army, Akhilesh was handpicked to lead the regional security apparatus of India’s largest commercial airline in North India. His key deliverables include anti hijacking preparedness, passenger profiling, crisis management and security audit.

Seizing the opportunities thrown up by the increased incidence of multinationals in India following the economic liberalization program, Akhilesh chose to move on to a Delhi based national consulting role with an Asian leader in risk consulting in Oct 1999. While he led the brand protection vertical for the firm, he was also a significant contributor to executive protection, commercial investigations and risk reports across India. The engagement with this risk consulting firm sharpened Akhilesh’s focus on the service providing space which gave him a unique blend of client and service provider perspectives.

In December 2001 Akhilesh incorporated TACT as one of its founding members.

Several MNC and Indian companies regularly draw on Akhilesh’s expertise in protecting their brands, so do a number of industry associations. Alongside, Akhilesh built related risk mitigation verticals like due diligence, commercial enquiries, employment & vendor screening, security audits and executive protection to broaden the firm’s portfolio of services.

Akhilesh is a member of the International Trademark Association’s (INTA’s) Anti-counterfeiting and Enforcement Sub-committee for South Asia, Middle east and Africa apart from being a member of CFE and ASIS. Akhilesh is a regular delegate at international conferences focused on risk mitigation in Asia Pacific as well as North America.

Jai Saxena

Director – Strategic Planning

An advertising and publishing professional, Saxena lends his business planning acumen to TACT. His vision on the industry and business perspective provides a clear understanding of the vulnerabilities of the industry.

His potent network of contacts within Indian industry and business is also a differentiator for the firm. Saxena’s insights are also a credible input to the firm’s due diligence and vendor audit operations. His professional reach extends to some important government ministries whose support is at times, critical for the successful execution of client mandates by TACT.

Bhushan Sapra

COO

Practice Head - Brand Protection

A Colonel from the Infantry who was commissioned into Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry, a Regiment comprising of troops exclusively from the state of J & K. Bhushan hung his uniform after successfully commanding the battalion involved in counter insurgency operations in J&K. During his command the unit also undertook a prestigious assignment of training foreign army troops in their own land. He also held the coveted post of Director “Force Restructuring” at the Integrated Head Quarters of Ministry of Defense. Bhushan earlier was also with the United Nations Peace Keeping Force at The Democratic Republic of Congo as “Military Information and Investigations Officer” assisting the Force Commander at Headquarters MONUC.

Bhushan’s operational experience includes deployment at Siachen Glacier, the world’s highest battle field, counter terrorist operations, counter insurgency operations in North Eastern States, an appointment of Brigade Major of an offensive formation and tenure with Military Operations Directorate at Army Headquarters.

An aluminous of National Defense Academy and Indian Military Academy Bhushan is Masters in Defense and Strategic Studies, Defense Services Staff College, a Masters in Business Administration from Symbiosis Institute of Management, Pune and General Management Course at Indian Institute of Management, Lucknow.

With extensive operational experience of more than twenty years from operational to tactical and finally to strategy level Bhushan brings with him a very wide range of multi dimensional experience to TACT India.

Brigadier (Retired) PC Bakshi

Senior Vice President 

Practice Head - Due Diligence  

Brigadier P C Bakshi is a highly qualified and versatile professional with 35 years of meritorious service in the Indian Army. Trained at the National Defense Academy, Indian Military Academy, School of Artillery and the Defense Services Staff College (a program where only the top 10% of officers of the rank of Major/equivalent qualify), he is a graduate of Artillery and has a Masters Degree in Military Science.  

He has been an instructor at the Army War College and School of Artillery; both of them being premium training establishments of the Army that also impart training to foreign officer students. He was the Chairman of a federally funded school for two years.

He has commanded large independent formations with superlative results. Brigadier Bakshi held prestigious appointments in perspective planning in the Army Head Quarters and was involved in futuristic projections with financial implications.  He is trained in delivering credible security and risk management solutions for the corporate sector in a dynamic environment.

Following his retirement from the forces, he successfully concluded a consultant’s assignment as a General Manager in an international textile mill in Africa.

At TACT, he is the controller of operations and has spearheaded a series of complex due diligence assignments for multinationals all over India. His investigations have unearthed facts which were intended to be concealed by the Subjects, which in turn led to clearer insight into the businesses of the firms being evaluated. His analytical approach has been appreciated by all clients. His bold and lucid comments have added value to investigation reports for multinationals. 

Major (Retired) PC Joshi

Senior Vice President (IT) 

Practice Head - Internet Investigations

Major PC Joshi is a Science Graduate from JNU, Delhi and has 20 years management (line and staff) and 10 years training and e-learning experience. He is an alumnus of the National Defence Academy and the Indian Military Academy. He did his Post Graduation in Air Defence Electronics / Technology and obtained a Masters Diploma in Business Administration from Symbiosis, Pune, with specialization in Human Resource. He has been an associate Faculty Member of Berhampur University, Orissa.

Having served with the Defence Forces, he has been a PG Instructor at prestigious Army Colleges. He pioneered Computer Aided Training Systems and developed numerous CBT packages and linear videos for training, on turnkey basis from concept to implementation.  He has written scripts for documentary films and creative articles written by him on technology and management have been published in reputed journals. His efforts have been well recognized at the highest personal and official levels.

As Director of a Web Application Development Company, he has designed and deployed many web applications such as CRM, KM, modules of ERM, simulated stock market games etc. He has also been the Chief Content and Technology Officer of a premier e-Learning company in India. He has assisted many NGOs with their technology requirements.  

As Senior Vice President (IT) and Practice Head Internet Investigations at TACT India, he brings his rich experience from related fields of e-transformation, e-learning and e-commerce. An avid, wide reader with future gazing as preferred inclination, his forte lies in architecting and implementing innovative solutions for emerging technology challenges. At TACT he has successfully implemented internet monitoring and security procedures leading to containment of infringements and prevention of illegal use of IPR on a Global basis. He is an important part of the Technology Committee at TACT contributing continuously to modernization and development / deployment of online applications.
